Job Description
Title: Pharmacy Technician
Job Summary: Assists pharmacist in preparing prescription medications.
- $17.35-$18.50per hour dependent upon years of experience as a technician
- Valley Health locations: Milton, Pea Ridge, Wayne
Job Responsibilities:
· Placement, receipt, unpack and storage of drug orders
· Maintenance of the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
· Order and stock all pharmacy supplies.
· Check off all prescription and non-prescription stock for outdates and process outdated returns.
· Operation of the cash register.
· File completed hard-copies of new prescriptions (except schedule II drugs) in numerical order.
· Place completed prescription orders on the will-call shelf.
· Wrap completed orders for mailing and the log mailed and delivered orders into a record.
· Contact the third-party billers and payers if problems arise while handling a patient’s insurance transmissions.
· Handle non-professional phone calls, refill requests, pricing, services, orders/supplies, and patient profiles.
· The acceptance of refill requests and new written prescriptions from patients.
· Enter the prescription data and patient profile data into the computer and (A) Monitor the label printing and (B) alert the pharmacist to any duplication of medication, drug therapy overlap, drug interactions, drug-disease state interactions, and any questions that arise from entering the information.
· Count and pour from stock bottles for individual prescriptions under the direct supervision of the pharmacist.
· The reconstitution and restoration of the original form of medication previously altered for preservation and storage by the addition of a specific quantity of an appropriate diluents requiring no calculations with supervision.
· Weigh or measure the specific ingredient for the pharmacist to use in extemporaneous compounding with pharmacy verification.
· Other duties as assigned by Pharmacist or supervisor.
Working Conditions:
· Position requires manual dexterity for operating standard office equipment.
· Position requires the ability to maintain concentration and attention to detail for long periods of time in order to maintain accurate records pertaining to patient and/or prescription information.
· Position functions within a normal office environment.
· Frequently required to lift and carry material weighing up to 10 pounds.
Qualifications:
· High School Diploma
· Pharmacy Certification in WV
Reports To: Pharmacy Tech Coordinator
Classification: Full or Part time, PRN, position; Non-exempt; Pay Band 1
